FLASHOVER: New Klaxons
May 28, 2010

I’ve been a huge fan of the Klaxons since the good old days in my earlier years of highschool, and this isn’t usually the kind of music that I post, but I like ‘em, so I’ll post ‘em! Thank god, after three dry years, “Flashover” is their new track, started out much heavier than their older stuff, but they’ve still got their usual high-pitched vocal harmonics in the background and their fast-paced rhythms that I love oh so much. I guess sometimes the old me can’t let this combination of British, punk and dance pass by…
Listen to the track on their website here!

Bringing it Down a Notch
May 7, 2010
Tomorrow I’m heading back to Beijing, and packing all my stuff to leave Italy is just making me really, really sad. Especially when every little thing just reminds me that it’s the last time I’ll be able to do it. So let’s bring it down a notch and introduce a band that has a little more down-tempo, hip-hop minimalism in their own electronic way. This collective band, made up of members from Bon Iver and Solid Gold to multiple rappers, is led by record producer Ryan Olson. GAYNGS really capture the type of nostalgic, echoing longing that I’m feeling right now without feeling depressed, with tracks like “The Gaudy Side of Town” and “Crystal Rope.” Their debut album Relayted releases on May 11… (but it has already leaked, shh.)

1,2,3 are Nic Snyder and Josh Sickels of Pittsburgh/LA and they’ve got more of an active rock influence, with mostly untouched traditional guitar effects. They’ve got some pretty cool beats that really get me going, especially in “Going Away Party.” They also explore gentle sounds with “Feeling Holy.” I’m really digging them and hope that you guys like them too! Check out more of their songs in the link to their myspace, or buy their 7″ of their debut song on Ooh La La Records.
Welcome Back Sailors
May 6, 2010
Found this song by Welcome Back Sailors on my iTunes, though I’m not really sure where from. I think it’s been circling around some music blogs, but I wasn’t sure. Did a little research but I couldn’t find much. But like I said, I’m a sucker for a bassline, and at around 1:20, it kicks in and tickled my pleasure senses. They only have this one song out in the open, sadly.

After studying for hours on end (a lie), I’ve stumbled on this great song that makes me think that studying is all worth it. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a good bassline, even if it’s synth-generated. Brothertiger, based in Athens, Ohio, has released his Vision Tunnel EP. This gets me going, it’s catchy, it gets me hoppin in my seat, but it still retains a blissful sort of vibe. Great for the summer.

Arches
May 5, 2010

Don’t get them confused with the Scottish band The Arches, because the band Arches are a whole different band, an unsigned music project by two roommates from college–one from New Jersey, and the other from New York. I particularly enjoyed their track “Another Fading Memory.” It reminded me a little bit of beach house, with echoed dream-like vocals and the gentle lull of the guitar strumming. They plan on getting together to record and play in the northeast coast this summer, so be sure to look out for them!

Sound Sensitivity

Born into an unusual childhood in Pittsburg, William Fitzsimmons is the youngest child of two blind parents. In replacement of the usual visual means to communicate, they substituted it with sound instead. And this is probably how his music is influenced towards a softer, more attentive and pleasant melodic sound that really tug at your heartstrings. I haven’t really heard much of the originals of this Illinois-based artist, other than knowing that he has a beard that can probably house a family of birds and had songs aired on TV show Grey’s Anatomy– but what really caught my attention is this great remix that Pink Ganter has done of the track “So This is Goodbye.”
